530 Sodium Silicate Technique
502 Everything But the Kitchen Sink Pottery
Using Sodium Silicate is a great textural technique for anyone who knows how to throw. The texture resembles something close to dried cracked earth and works great with glazes that break or various different firing methods This super easy technique can be combined with the use of underglazes to make a tactile surface that adds another dimension to both glazed and unglazed surfaces. This technique can be used on both low fire and high fire clay. Students must have a general grasp of how to throw on the wheel.
