Hobo Woodcarving Class: Ball in a Cage
Learn how to carve a ball in a cage in a 3 hour carving class taught by sculptor David Shankland. Ball in a cage was one of the distinctive carving designs that became widespread during the depression. The fairly simple yet unique carvings were sold throughout the US wherever the trains ran. Today it is used as a good basic carving lesson. Our completed carvings can be used as a hanging holiday decoration or a one of a kind conversation piece. Some experience with whittling or carving helpful but not essential. If you have a favorite locking blade knife or exacto knife that will work. If not wood and necessary tools will be provided.
